The sea caves of Vieste
“Grotta dei Pomodori“, “Grotta Rossa“, “Grotta Sfondata“, “Grotta delle Rondini“, “Grotta dei Contrabbandieri“(the first one to be discovered in 1954 by two local fishermen), “Grotta dei Serpenti“, “Grotta dei Marmi“:
these are the peculiar names of the caves along the coast of Vieste.
Each cave is like a secret passage the sea has gained by digging into the rock with his overbearing vehemence.
The Caves of Vieste are all charming in a mysterious way. It is possible to visit them by sea, by joining one of the interesting guided tours that explain the peculiarities and history of each sea cave.
Motorboat excursions allow visitors to appreciate the full spectacle of the natural sea caves located on the coast of Vieste, leading up to Peschici (north) and Mattinata (south). The company Motobarche Leonarda organizes day trips (two trips a day) during the period between 1st April and 31st October. There are reductions and special discounts on the cost of the ticket for groups.
Do not miss the night trips to the sea Caves of Vieste: by the end of the tour, food tastings based on bruschetta, grilled fish, wine and watermelon are scheduled.
